Marsh-Tits & Crab Apple Flowers Embroidered Cushion

Adapted from Teisai Hokuba’s Edo-period surimono Marsh-tits and Crab Apple Flowers, this cushion brings Japanese bird-and-flower imagery into a tactile textile format. The original print’s restrained palette, delicate birds and flowering branches are rebalanced as a soft decorative object with a calm, gallery-like presence.

The parchment-toned textile ground is digitally printed to echo the subtle paper quality of the source image. Leaves and birds are defined with fine flat embroidery, while the pale blossoms are lifted through hand embroidery to create a quiet relief against the printed surface. The ivory fringe completes the piece with a crafted, collectible character.
